Northrop Grumman (NOC) gets 84% of its revenue from the U.S. government
What Northrop Grumman reports in its FY2025 10-K, and what federal contract records show.
Summary
Northrop Grumman is the most government-dependent of the large defense primes: 84% of its FY2025 sales, or $35.2B of $42.0B, came from the U.S. government. Its 10-K gives three years in one line: "Sales to the U.S. government accounted for 84 percent, 87 percent and 86 percent of sales during the years ended December 31, 2025, 2024 and 2023, respectively." Northrop counts foreign military sales as international, so its share would be higher on the definition General Dynamics and Boeing use.
The Air Force is its largest contracting customer, at 40.5% of the obligations we matched in federal fiscal year 2025, led by the engineering and manufacturing development contract for the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile (formerly Ground Based Strategic Deterrent, FA821920C0006), with $13.7B obligated to date.
The public contract record is much smaller than the revenue Northrop reports: we matched $12.8B in obligations against $35.2B of U.S. government revenue. We are reviewing the match before publishing a ratio. Contract actions for classified programs are generally not published on USAspending, which can leave a company's public record smaller than its revenue; we have not yet established how much of this gap that explains.

Which public companies are most exposed to a government shutdown? Science Applications International and Leidos pair high federal dependence with mostly civilian-agency contracts
We paired each company's reported share of revenue from the U.S. government with the agencies that sign its federal contracts. Civilian agencies matter most in a lapse in appropriations, so the contractors that serve them carry the most direct exposure.
